“Mi Barrio” is a project of the students of La Escuelita Alternativa del Barrio Pueblo Nuevo, or the little school from the barrio. The school is at the heart of the city of Mérida, the capital city of the Venezuelan state of Mérida. It serves the barrios of Pueblo Nuevo and the adjacent Simón Bolívar. The students of this community are working to create a living history of the barrio, and to place their families, their neighbors and friends, and themselves within that history.
Marcus Murray has been collaborating with these students to begin using photography as a component of that process.
